Herriot Way Walking Holiday
in Yorkshire Northern England
a circular walk from Hawes
via Keld, Reeth, Castle Bolton, Aysgarth and Askrigg
The Herriot Way is a 52 mile circular walking route in the Yorkshire Dales devised by Stuart Greig and is a combination of public footpaths, ancient tracks and quiet country lanes, making a walking route that is easy to follow.
The walk is named after James Herriot, the fictional veterinarian from the books and television series “All Creatures Great and Small”.
On this circular Herriot Way walking holiday from Hawes you visit beautiful valleys, high, open fells and rolling, heather-clad moorland. You cross one of the highest points in Yorkshire, visit historic monuments and pass through a barren industrial wilderness, laid bare through lead mining.
The little Yorkshire town of Askrigg was used as a film location for the James Herriot TV series “All Creatures Great and Small”.
The Herriot Way can be made into a longer walking holiday by connecting with the Richmond Way.
