Enjoy a self-guided “around island” walking holiday on the 44 mile coastal footpath around the Island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands in the UK, with day trips to Herm and Sark.
This Guernsey Walking Holiday offers an amazing variety of terrain, from heath-covered cliffs with views across the sea to the other Channel Islands, sandy bays, and rocky coves.
This wonderful coastal path around Guernsey, the 2nd largest of the Channel Islands, can be walked over 9 days at about 7 miles per day. Explore the islands of Herm and Sark to make this holiday into 6 days of great walking. You stay in St Peter Port for the entire holiday and we include daily transfers back to your accommodation.
Guernsey, Herm and Sark are steeped in history with relics dating back to Neolithic times, as well as reminders of the Channel Islands more recent past, including Martello Towers of the Napoleonic Wars and extensive German fortifications from the Second World War.
The coast paths of these islands offer relaxing walking and a great way to unwind and recuperate.
Our self-guided walking holidays are designed with your comfort and enjoyment in mind and can be tailor-made to your own personal requirements.
The routes are clearly way-marked to provide reassurance on your hiking vacation.
We use a selection of guest houses, inns or small hotels with en-suite or private bathroom to ensure you are well rested each night after a busy day hiking and sightseeing. Rest assured that all our accommodation walking holiday providers are hand-picked and offer you that famous British hospitality.
Special diets can be catered for, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free.
We organize the luggage transfer so your bags are at your next accommodation when you arrive. We try to get your bags delivered by 4pm, but this may be delayed due to road conditions.

Our offices are staffed 9am to 9pm during our walking season (March to September) to ensure your walking holiday runs without a hitch.
All our walking holidays are self-guided and you must be a confident map reader and able to navigate from a compass bearing. The weather in the UK and Ireland can change quickly effecting visibility and underfoot conditions. It is important to carry a selection of clothing with you on your hike each day to cope with changing weather conditions. If you are not confident of completing any days walk, do not set out.
This walking holiday in the UK operates March to September and in either direction.
The daily distances are only a suggestion. If you would like to walk longer or shorter distances, we can arrange that too.
Our stated distances include mileage to the accommodation or pickup point and so may not agree with the guide book mileages.
Rest days can be taken in any location.
Why not combine this walk with a hiking tour in another part of the UK or Ireland. Our staff will be happy to advise on necessary transfers.

This itinerary includes return ferry from Poole or St Malo to Guernsey
and return ferries from Guernsey to Herm and Sark.
The ferry between Poole and Guernsey sails up to 4 times a week. The ferry between St Malo and Guernsey sails up to twice a week. Dates and times of sailings depend on tides. Please have some flexibility in your starting date to coordinate with the sailing schedule.

Day by Day Itinerary
Optional Day: Optional overnight in Poole
The ferry departure time from Poole is dependent on the tides and so the departure time can be early. If this is the case we can include an overnight stay in Poole to enable you to be in plenty of time for the ferry.
Day 1: Arrive Poole or St Malo or fly to Guernsey
To start your Channel Islands walking holiday you make your own way to Poole in Dorset or St Malo in France to get the fast catamaran ferry to St Peter Port, Guernsey. We can assist with air, coach or train transfers if required. You could use this as an opportunity to explore the Jurassic Coast, or combine this holiday with a walking holiday on the South West Coast Path. Car parking is available for the duration of your self-guided walking holiday on Guernsey.
Day 2: St Peter Port to Jerbourg Point 6 miles
After exploring St Peter Port, you walk along by the harbour past the Underground Military Museum and the Aquarium. Enjoy very pleasant walking along the wooded cliff path to Fermain Bay, then around Jerbourg Point.
Day 3 : Jerbourg Point to Occupation Museum Le Bourg 7 miles
From Jerbourg Point there are good views to the South and South West towards the Islands of Sark and Jersey beyond. The Gun Battery at La Moye is worth viewing on route. En-route the area around Icart and Saint’s Bay offer a choice of places for lunch. You then walk inland through farmland before reaching the German Occupation Museum.This interest has a museum has an very homely and welcoming feel and normally offer a good selection of drinks and snacks.
Day 4: Occupation Museum Le Bourg to Portelet Harbour 7.5 miles
Today’s walk starts with a gentle walk back to the coast then continues along the rugged cliff path of the stunning south coast of Guernsey via Le Gouffre and Havre de Bon Repos. Visit the watch tower at La Prevôté, originally built to protect the island from the French, and later added to during the German occupation. The path continues around the Pleinmont peninsula at the extreme southwestern end of Guernsey to Portelet Harbour. The hotel at Portelet Harbour offer a fine selection of local beers and locally sourced meals.
Day 5: Portelet Harbour to Cobo Bay 8 miles
A pleasant mostly flat walk today from Portelet Harbour to Cobo Bay alongside sandy beaches. A visit to Fort Grey, a Martello tower housing a shipwreck museum and Guernsey Pearl before starting your walk is worth considering. If the tide is out, you can walk around the small Lihou Island. Cobo Bay has a beach popuar with swinners and a hotel and beach cafe for drinks and snacks.
Day 6: Cobo Bay to Le Grand Havre 7 miles
A another flat walk today from Cobo Bay to Le Grand Havre alongside 6 beaches. The area has number of cafes and the few shops enroute together with some of the Islands best beaches. The area is also a great place to spot birds playing in the surf. Le Grand Havre has a couple of hotels and cafe for afternoon snacks and drinkies.
Day 7: Le Grand Havre to Bordeaux Harbour 7 miles
Today you are walking around the northwest peninsula of Guernsey via Fort Pembroke and Fort La Marchant. As you come around the point the islands of Alderney, Herm and Sark can be clearly seen.
Day 8: Bordeaux Harbour to St Peter Port 7 miles easy
Today you are walking is easy and this part of the island offer more shops and is generally more build up. The walking route enters St Peter Port by the Yacht Marina. The Gardens , Museum and Art in the park above the harbour are well worth a visit and offer great views over the town.
Day 9: The Island of Herm
Take a day-trip from St Peter Port to the island of Herm, only half a square mile, but 4 miles of coastal footpaths. Herm is a paradise of dramatic cliffs, wild flowers, hills, valleys, golden beaches and no cars.
Day 10: The Island of Sark
Take a day-trip from St Peter Port to the island of Sark, only 2 square miles, but 15 miles of coastal footpaths. Sark is entirely cliff-bound, and even the main harbours are at the foot of the cliff and access from them to the village is through tunnels and up a steep track. Little Sark is linked with the rest of the island by the knife-edge pass of Le Coupée.
Day 11 : Depart after breakfast
You take the fast ferry back to Poole or St Malo. The ferry departure time from St Peter Port is dependent on the tides and so the arrival time in Poole can be late. If this is the case we can include an overnight stay in Poole. Or if traveling by plane, we transfer you back to the airport. This walking holiday can be combined with our Jersey Coastal Footpath holiday to make a 15 day holiday.

Should ferries or flights included within your holiday itinerary be cancelled or delayed Let’s Go Biking Ltd will endeavour to arrange alternative accommodation which may be subject to additional charges.
We will also assist with arranging onward land transfers (where appropriate) as we deem required to enable you to continue your holiday as originally scheduled.
