Our Solent Way walking holiday is a 60 miles coastal UK walking trail. It starts in Milford on Sea with its fine beaches and the historic Hurst Castle. Through the New Forest, past Beaulieu Abbey and the National Motor Museum. The hiking trail then crosses Southampton Water by ferry from the famous old Netley Pier. This is one of two ferries on the walking trail. The whole area is full of naval history with the Gosport Submarine Museum, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard with HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. The trail ends at the old harbour at Emsworth.
This Hampshire self-guided Solent Way walking holiday is a great introduction to The Solent and the New Forest. The Solent Way passes through some of Hampshire’s most spectacular landscapes full of wildlife and heritage.
The Solent Way walking holiday connects with the Test Way at Southampton.

We organize the luggage transfer so your bags are at your next accommodation when you arrive. We try to get your bags delivered by 4pm, but this may be delayed due to road conditions.

Our offices are staffed 9am to 9pm during our walking season (March to September) to ensure your walking holiday runs without a hitch.
All our walking holidays are self-guided and you must be a confident map reader and able to navigate from a compass bearing. The weather in the UK and Ireland can change quickly effecting visibility and underfoot conditions. It is important to carry a selection of clothing with you on your hike each day to cope with changing weather conditions. If you are not confident of completing any days walk, do not set out.
This walking holiday in the UK operates March to September and in either direction.
The daily distances are only a suggestion. If you would like to walk longer or shorter distances, we can arrange that too.
Our stated distances include mileage to the accommodation or pickup point and so may not agree with the guide book mileages.
Rest days can be taken in any location.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at Milford-on-Sea
To start your Hampshire walking holiday you make your own way to Milford-on-Sea. We can assist with coach or train transfers if necessary. Car parking is available for the duration of your self-guided coastal walking holiday.
Day 2: Milford-on-Sea to Lymington 9 miles easy
Leaving Milford-on-Sea you wander along the 1½ mile shingle spit to Hurst Castle and its fine views of the big ships entering the Solent. You pass through a coastal nature reserve and on to Lymington. There is plenty of time to enjoy the pubs and shops along the way.
Day 3: Lymington to Bucklers Hard or Beaulieu 8 or 10 miles easy
As the path leaves Lymington it crosses the Lymington River and heads inland to the New Forest . The trail now enters Buckler’s Hard with its famous 18th century village and Maritime Museum. On to Beaulieu with its Abbey and National Motor Museum. Lots to see and plenty of time.
Day 4: Bucklers Hard or Beaulieu to Netley or Hamble 11, 9 or 12 miles miles easy
Heading out of Beaulieu the path climbs up onto Beaulieu Heath, then down into Hythe. Take the ferry across Southampton Water. The trail passes along the waterfront at Southampton with plenty of places to visit. At Southampton the Solent Way passes very close to the Test Way.
Day 5: Netley or Hamble to Gosport 15 or 13 miles easy
On to the River Hamble famous for its yachts and fine views. A splendid walk along the east side of Southampton Water with lots of opportunities for bird watching at the Hook-with-Warsach Nature Reserve and the Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve. As you reach Gosport you are aware of the legacy of navel history.
Day 6: Gosport to Emsworth 15 miles easy
Take the ferry across the Portsmouth Harbour and perhaps visit the historic Dockyard and HMS Victory. The trail follows the waters edge full of wildlife, fine old waterside villages and old pubs to Emsworth.
Day 7: Depart after breakfast
Depart after Breakfast or extend your holiday walking and spend some time exploring the Emsworth area
